The Risks of Using Open AI for Businesses in Thailand

Businesses in Thailand warned not to use open AI to prevent data leakage

Noting that AI plays an important role in boosting efficiency and reducing costs, experts warned that using this technology carelessly could have serious impacts. While recognising the value of artificial intelligence, the National Cyber Security Agency emphasizes the need for secure measures to guard against cybercrime.

Organisations should use artificial intelligence (AI) wisely to prevent data leakage and negative impacts on their reputation, National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) secretary-general AVM Amorn Chomchoey said. He pointed out that some organisations are currently processing their confidential data using public AI, which can lead to data leakage.

Amorn advised setting clear goals on using AI to ensure that the technology benefits organisations, such as responding to system failures and evaluating long-term cost-effectiveness. He also highlighted that hackers have developed new methods to launch cyberattacks, such as creating fake websites, installing malware on network systems, or using AI to forge emails and deceive victims.

How is Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impacting Business?

Enhancing cybersecurity for small and medium enterprises

Amorn noted that small and medium enterprises are at higher risk of cybercrimes due to limited budgets for cybersecurity measures. To mitigate impacts like customer data leakage and loss of business credibility, he recommended enhancing cybersecurity through:

  • Training programs to boost awareness on cybersecurity
  • Following international standards to cope with cyberattacks

Amorn confirmed that the public sector, including the NCSA, has initiated training programs to raise awareness about cybersecurity following international standards. This initiative aims to equip businesses with the necessary knowledge and skills to combat cyber threats effectively.
