Meta To Use European Citizens' Data To Train Its AI
Meta, the owner of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, is going to use the data of its European users to train its generative artificial intelligence (AI) model from May 27th. Earlier this week, the firm announced it. The firm will also use interactions with its Meta AI chatbot to improve its AI. The firm will use the information that will be publicly available, like a comment on a Facebook post or an Instagram caption, for its AI to be smarter. However, reports indicate that WhatsApp will not use its private messages that are sent to family and friends. European users can opt out of this practice by filling out a form, but the process has raised some privacy concerns.
Before 27th May, Meta will notify its users about the new policy and will share a link to the opt-out form so they can decide if they want to keep their content private or not. The firm has stated that its new plan to use public posts and chatbot conversations for its AI training won’t include accounts of users under the age of 18.

Focus on Artificial Intelligence
Meta is heavily focused on artificial intelligence (AI), just like other big tech companies like OpenAI. The firm is also trying to compete with successful AI tools like ChatGPT. To build better AI models, Meta plans to spend $60 to $65 billion this year. Most of this money will go toward creating data centers. Recently, Meta has also launched its latest Llama-4, which is an open-weight AI model.
