Perplexity AI Partnership: What's Next for Samsung, Motorola, and Android Users

Watch Out, Gemini: Samsung, Motorola in Discussions for Built-In AI Assistant

If it's included by default on future Android phones, Perplexity may give Google a run for its money. Google Gemini is the default AI assistant for almost all modern Android devices, but two of the world’s biggest phone makers may soon offer an alternative.

Samsung and Motorola Negotiating with Perplexity AI

As Bloomberg reports, Samsung and Motorola are negotiating with Perplexity AI to have its technology built into phones. Motorola is reportedly further along in the negotiation process, while Samsung is still sorting out specifics.

Samsung’s partnership with Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., is said to be complicating the deal. Gemini powers a lot of Galaxy AI functionality currently available on Samsung phones.

Potential Integration Scenarios

For Samsung's ongoing negotiations, it’s said there may be multiple options for how it would work for customers, including offering it as a default alternative to Google Gemini or preinstalling the app on future Samsung phones. According to Bloomberg's sources, Motorola will include Perplexity preloaded onto its phone, but it won’t be on by default. Instead, Motorola will use its own marketing to highlight the service to customers and show what it can do.

Future Prospects for Perplexity AI

Bringing this new AI technology to Motorola and Samsung phones would be a major step forward for Perplexity, which was founded in 2022. The AI platform offers real-time results that rival platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Gemini. So far, Perplexity hasn't proven as popular as its rivals.

Motorola is rumored to be hosting an event in New York City on April 24, where we may hear further details about the partnership with Perplexity AI. Expect a longer wait to hear about Samsung’s partnership, which isn’t expected to launch new smartphones until at least August.

Elsewhere, Perplexity AI has been making a name for itself with multiple bids in 2025 to buy TikTok. In March, it said it wanted to buy the platform to "rebuild the TikTok algorithm without creating a monopoly.”
