Meta is Blocking Apple Intelligence in All Meta Apps: Report
It has been reported that Meta is blocking Apple Intelligence in all Meta apps, sparking speculation about the reasons behind this decision. The relationship between Meta and Apple has been fraught with disagreements over user privacy, data tracking, and platform control, leading to clashes over policies that affect their respective business models.
Blocking of Apple Intelligence Features
According to a report by the Brazilian blog Sorcererhat Tech, Meta has quietly disabled several Apple Intelligence features in its apps. This includes tools like Writing Tools, which leverage Apple's AI for creating, editing, and proofreading text. Users have noticed the absence of these features when using Meta apps on their Apple devices.
Previously, features such as Writing Tools were accessible by tapping a text field on iPhones and iPads. However, users have found that these features are now missing in Meta's iOS apps, indicating a deliberate block by Meta.
Restrictions on Apple AI-Generated Content
Additionally, Meta apps no longer support Apple's AI-generated Genmoji, custom emoji, stickers, and Memoji in platforms like Instagram Stories. While these functionalities were available before, users have reported their unavailability in Meta apps.
Despite Meta's restrictions, some users have been able to create and send Genmojis in Instagram Chats and WhatsApp. The disparity in features between Meta's apps and Apple's AI capabilities suggests a strategic move by Meta to prioritize its own AI offerings over Apple's.
Failed Partnership Between Apple and Meta
Notably, discussions about integrating Meta's AI language model, Llama, into Apple Intelligence were held approximately a year ago. The potential partnership aimed to enhance Apple's AI capabilities but was ultimately abandoned due to disagreements regarding Meta's privacy policies.
