Gemini AI is getting a new home in the Google app's settings menu
The Google Gemini app, an AI-powered chatbot, has been gradually becoming an essential part of the Android user experience. Google is continuously working on improving Gemini to ensure its integration with Android smartphones. In line with this, an upcoming update to the Google app will introduce a new way for users to access Gemini.
What's Changing?
According to code sleuth AssembleDebug, the Google app for Android will soon feature a dedicated Gemini tab within the Settings page. This update will offer users a convenient entry point to explore Gemini directly from their Android devices. While the specific version of the Google app bringing this change was not disclosed, it is expected to roll out widely in the near future.
Users who have already opted in to use Gemini will be seamlessly redirected to the chat window within the app when accessing this new menu page. For those who have not yet activated Gemini, this update will provide them with the opportunity to enable the AI chatbot for the first time. The Gemini option will be positioned between the Assistant and Voice settings in the Google app.
Feature Development
While Gemini has seen significant enhancements, certain key Assistant functionalities are still not fully integrated into the chatbot. Google is actively working to bridge this feature gap, particularly in areas such as routines. Although there are still limitations in place, Gemini is making progress, such as extending support for YouTube Music via extensions.
A glimpse at the Gemini support page highlights some Assistant features that are currently unavailable on Gemini, such as interpreter mode and routines. Additionally, requesting Gemini to open playlists from third-party streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music is not yet supported. Nonetheless, efforts are underway to enhance Gemini's functionality over time.
