OpenAI Unveils GPT-4o

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, introduced its latest flagship model, GPT-4o, on 13 May. This groundbreaking model can effortlessly process commands spanning audio, vision, and text in real time. GPT-4o, where "o" signifies "omni," has the capability to handle various inputs such as text, audio, image, and video, and generate outputs in different formats. According to OpenAI, the model can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average response time of 320 milliseconds, akin to human response time. Additionally, the company has integrated new safety measures in the model to ensure secure voice outputs.

Google Introduces AI-Generated Answers in Search

At the recently concluded Google I/O conference on 14 May, the tech giant unveiled its plans to incorporate AI-generated answers into its search results. This new feature, named AI Overview, will allow users to view a summary of their search results on Google. The AI Overview is powered by the Gemini model, which amalgamates advanced capabilities such as multi-step reasoning, planning, and multimodality. Users will have the flexibility to customize their AI Overview by simplifying the language or delving into more detailed information. The rollout of AI Overview will commence in the US before expanding to other countries.

Ransomware Attacks on Indian Organizations

A recent report by cybersecurity solutions company Sophos, released on 14 May, highlighted the impact of ransomware attacks on Indian organizations. The report revealed that 64% of Indian organizations fell victim to ransomware attacks in 2023. While the rate of attacks decreased from 73% in 2022, the severity of the attacks intensified with higher ransom demands and recovery costs. Ransomware, a malicious software that restricts access to data, necessitates a ransom for data retrieval. The report disclosed that the average ransom demand stood at $4.8 million (approximately ₹40 crore), with 62% of demands surpassing $1 million. The median ransom paid amounted to $2 million.
