Google to open AI centre of excellence in Zambia
Google and Zambia have announced a collaboration to establish an Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence at the University of Zambia. This initiative, revealed by the Zambian Ministry of Technology and Science on social media, aims to provide a platform for young innovators to create solutions for the country's societal challenges.
Zambia's Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, expressed that the facility will empower young individuals to transform their ideas into products and solutions that can address pressing issues. This partnership with Google marks Zambia's second AI collaboration in recent months, highlighting the country's commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies.
Previous AI Collaboration
In a separate collaboration earlier this year, Zambia partnered with the Czech Republic to offer training in AI and cyber security to young people. The Czech Republic pledged 25 scholarships covering bachelor's and master's degrees in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and related information and communication technologies. This initiative underscores Zambia's proactive approach towards equipping its youth with relevant skills in emerging tech fields.
