Unlock ChatGPT: Now Available on WhatsApp and Calls

ChatGPT now available for WhatsApp, calls

OpenAI has made the ChatGPT accessible for more users by making it available through WhatsApp and calls. According to the AI company, you can now interact with the AI chatbot by calling a phone number (1-800-CHATGPT) or via sending a message to the same number on WhatsApp.

The company made the announcement via a post that says, “You can now talk to ChatGPT by calling 1-800-ChatGPT (1-800-242-8478) in the U.S. or by sending a WhatsApp message to the same number—available everywhere ChatGPT is.” OpenAI has stated that this service will be available for users in the US. They can interact via phone call for 15 minutes of free usage per month while ChatGPT on WhatsApp is “available everywhere ChatGPT is.”

Enhanced User Experience

“To start, people in the U.S. will get 15 minutes per month of voice calling. This is an experimental way to talk to ChatGPT, so availability and limits may change,” the company added. The company aims to attract more users by offering a simplified and convenient way to experience ChatGPT. This will help those who have difficulty using ChatGPT as they can interact through familiar communication channels.

Technical Implementation

As per reports, the company developed this feature in just a few weeks. The phone line utilizes OpenAI’s Realtime API, while the WhatsApp integration is powered by GPT-4o mini through the WhatsApp API. However, these users will not be able to use the more advanced features, higher usage limits, and personalization. If they want to experience these features, they will need to use the regular ChatGPT account on the app or website.

Recent Developments

The development comes soon after the OpenAI announced a 12-day release event, dubbed “ship-mas,” with a flurry of announcements and new features. Among the most notable developments is the availability of Sora, OpenAI’s AI video generation tool.
