Sam Altman's OpenAI says ChatGPT's weekly users have grown to over 200 million
OpenAI announced on Thursday that its chatbot, ChatGPT, has experienced significant growth, with more than 200 million weekly active users. This number represents a doubling of the user base since the last fall season.
ChatGPT, which was initially launched in 2022, is designed to generate human-like responses based on user prompts. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had previously disclosed that the platform had reached 100 million weekly active users back in November.
Fortune 500 Usage and API Integration
OpenAI revealed that 92% of Fortune 500 companies are leveraging its products. Additionally, the adoption of the automated Application Programming Interface (API) has seen a twofold increase since the introduction of ChatGPT-4o mini in July.
ChatGPT-4o mini is a smaller, cost-effective AI model that aims to enhance affordability and energy efficiency. This strategic move enables OpenAI to cater to a wider range of customers.
Impact on AI Industry
The popularity of ChatGPT has played a pivotal role in boosting the prominence of AI technology. Consequently, it has propelled OpenAI's valuation to new heights, establishing the San Francisco-based company as a major player in the AI landscape.
Collaboration with U.S. Government and Potential Investors
OpenAI, alongside AI startup Anthropic, secured agreements with the U.S. government for the research, testing, and evaluation of their AI models. These partnerships emphasize the growing importance of artificial intelligence in various sectors.
Rumors suggest that tech giants Apple and Nvidia are considering investments in OpenAI as part of a new funding round. Speculations indicate that this move could potentially value the ChatGPT developer at over $100 billion.
Furthermore, Microsoft, a key supporter of OpenAI, is anticipated to enhance its investment in the company, further solidifying its position in the AI market.
