Gemini to Replace Google Assistant on July 7!
Google has announced a major update regarding its virtual assistant, Gemini, which is set to replace Google Assistant on July 7. According to a statement by Google, users can now utilize Gemini for various daily tasks on their mobile devices, such as sending messages, making phone calls, and setting timers, even with Gemini Apps Activity turned off.
This new feature is significant as it allows users to perform tasks without the need to train Google's AI models on their private conversations. If you have previously disabled Gemini Apps Activity due to privacy concerns, this update will now give you the opportunity to take advantage of its capabilities.

Privacy-Focused Functionality
From July 7 onwards, users will be able to ask Gemini to perform tasks typically associated with Google Assistant, like setting alarms or sending texts, without their activity being stored in Google's database. This shift enables users to leverage Gemini as a virtual sidekick, providing reminders and assistance while maintaining privacy.

Despite this privacy-forward approach, Google will still retain user activity data from Gemini for 72 hours for safety, security, and feedback purposes. However, users have the option to easily manage their data and turn off Gemini Apps Activity if desired.
Evolution of Google Assistant
With these changes, the landscape of Google Assistant is undergoing a significant transformation. Initially exclusive to Pixel devices, Google Assistant was introduced with the Pixel and Pixel XL in 2016. Now, nearly a decade later, the focus is shifting towards AI-driven functionalities that offer more than just answers on Android devices.

While the integration of Siri into various apps – allowing users to execute commands without opening them manually – is still pending, Google is empowering its users to interact with AI in more advanced ways.
Key Updates and Features
After the July 7th update, Gemini will offer users the ability to send messages, make calls, set alarms, and control phone utilities with Gemini Apps Activity turned off. Google will store user activity data from Gemini for 72 hours for safety and feedback purposes, despite user settings. This update addresses privacy concerns by allowing users to access Gemini's functionalities without compromising their privacy.
