Midjourney dropped its first video generator Wednesday, offering a groundbreaking price point that could disrupt the entire AI video market. While each video job costs about eight times more than generating a static image, users receive four videos totaling 20 seconds of content. Midjourney's pricing strategy positions its $10 monthly plan in direct competition with services that cost 25 times more. For example, Google's Veo 3 is priced at $249.99 monthly and OpenAI's Sora starts at $20.

CEO David Holz described the launch as "amazing" and "surprising," highlighting that the pricing is over 25 times cheaper than what the market previously offered. The tools offer two motion settings: low motion for subtle movements like gentle breezes or blinking, and high motion for dynamic camera work and subject animation. Users can even extend individual clips up to 21 seconds by adding four-second increments.
Initial feedback indicates that Midjourney has successfully captured its target audience's attention. Phi Hoang, an AI designer at Perplexity, praised the results, stating they surpassed all expectations on social media.

Midjourney's video generator is exclusive to its website and Discord server, requiring a subscription starting at $10 monthly for basic access. Holz sees the V1 model as a stepping stone towards creating models capable of real-time open-world simulations, where users can explore AI-generated environments interactively.
The company, boasting nearly 20 million users and $300 million in earnings in 2024, plans to expand AI-generated content creation across social media and creative industries by offering affordable video generation.
