The new domain suggests that ChatGPT's Google search engine is on the way
ChatGPT has been rumored to be working on its own alternative to Google’s search engine for some time, intensifying the AI war between the two giants. Previous reports hinted that the ChatGPT search engine could launch as soon as May, and if the latest reports are anything to go by, that could happen.
Reddit user halfstar found SSL certificates for the ChatGPT search engine domain name search.chatgpt.com. Adding fuel to the fire, an AI podcast host who goes by the name Pete said in a post on Twitter, “Search.ChatGPT.com May 9,” suggesting the launch of the ChatGPT search engine on May 9.
When you visit the subdomain in a web browser, it returns a cryptic “Not Found” message and not a “404” or “domain error,” adding more to the speculation that the ChatGPT search engine may be at work.
Microsoft's interest and potential impact
Currently, there are not many details about the ChatGPT search engine, but recent developments give us an indication that Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI, wants to challenge Google’s search engine monopoly. Microsoft’s Bing hasn’t been able to break Google Search’s dominance, so it might as well take OpenAI’s help to knock Google Search out.
As mentioned by Android Authority, the ChatGPT search engine can focus on using AI to provide fast results and AI summaries. If all goes well, we could see a new rival search engine to Google Search on May 9.
Partnerships and future prospects
OpenAI recently teamed up with the Financial Times to further improve its models. Partnerships will display links to appropriate Financial Times articles whenever relevant questions are asked on ChatGPT. Moreover, this business could also help ChatGPT to get the latest information through different sources of Financial Times.
