Why Health-Care Jobs are a Promising Career Option in the Age of AI
The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has left many people wondering which careers will still be in demand in the future. According to the latest MLIV Pulse survey, health-care jobs seem to be a promising option. The survey involved 678 respondents, and nearly 40% believed that elementary school-aged children would be better off pursuing a career in health care to avoid being displaced by AI.
One reason why health-care jobs are a good option is that they are less likely to be automated. Jobs in this field often involve a high degree of human-to-human interaction, which AI programs currently cannot replace. As the population ages, economists have forecasted a massive demand for health-care workers in the US and around the world, making it a wise choice for those entering the workforce.
On the other hand, investors suggest that high school graduates should consider pursuing a career in tech. Despite recent layoffs at major tech companies, tech-savvy individuals are still in high demand in a world increasingly influenced by digital platforms. However, while AI may pose a threat to some entry-level jobs, it is not expected to replace professionals in fields such as finance and technology.
According to Andrew Challenger, senior vice president of human-resources consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., “the highest paying jobs were so clearly in the finance sector for two or three decades, and now tech is really competitive with that — they're kind of neck and neck.” Challenger predicts that finance, tech, and health care will remain among the most lucrative careers for the next 20-30 years.
Despite the potential impact of AI on various sectors, most survey respondents still believe that an undergraduate degree is worthwhile. However, some suggested that going to trade school to become a carpenter, electrician, or plumber - jobs which can't be easily automated or outsourced - might be a path worth pursuing.
In conclusion, while AI may disrupt some sectors, it is not expected to displace human workers in fields such as health care, finance, and technology. Pursuing a career in one of these fields, or entering a trade that cannot be easily automated or outsourced, may prove to be a wise choice.
