Amazon Knows AI, but Don't Count Alexa Out
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently revealed in an article in Financial Times that Amazon, like other giant tech companies, has been working on AI like ChatGPT for a long time, and they are actively working on Alexa to make it an even better AI. Nonetheless, Amazon believes that Alexa already surpasses ChatGPT due to its personality, memory, and real-time knowledge of current events.
For Amazon, having real-time knowledge is crucial, whether the task at hand is writing a screenplay or designing an AI. While Amazon engineers use ChatGPT to improve lines of code, the company has made it clear that employees should not share any confidential company data with ChatGPT.
It is known that Amazon is focused on a customer-centric approach to AI, enabling them to quickly pivot to serve market needs. Currently, Amazon offers multiple AI services for enterprise workflows. However, according to Analytics India Magazine (AIM), Amazon lacks a dedicated AI research team. Nonetheless, with the market leadership and custom hardware, Amazon may have an edge in hosting AI in the cloud, as opposed to Microsoft and Google.
Amazon is not behind when it comes to applying AI to the retail experience. In a 2022 article featured on Zentail, Amazon's use of AI has been detailed, and it is evident that Amazon is staying in the race to make AI applicable to the retail experience. This fact positions Amazon as the supreme eCommerce leader, and it cannot be counted out in the AI race.
At the moment, the growth of AI like ChatGPT and OpenAI leads to many questions, and we are still figuring out its impact on our society. Nonetheless, Amazon's impressive progress and dedication in the AI industry demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of AI.
