Can ChatGPT help with online dating? | The Standard
By now, many of us have dabbled in AI tools like ChatGPT for various purposes such as writing essays, planning vacations, or just for entertainment. However, it has come to light that some are now turning to chatbots for dating advice and assistance on dating apps.
A survey conducted by Flirtini among 2,000 individuals revealed that a significant number of people have explored this avenue. According to the researchers, around 50 percent of respondents have sought dating advice from chatbots like ChatGPT, with 55 percent using AI to generate messages for their crushes. Additionally, 46 percent have practiced flirting with chatbots, and 40 percent have utilized this technology to enhance their sexting skills.
Testing the Waters
This trend led me to ponder whether AI could assist in crafting an engaging online dating profile or creating a compelling opening message. To satisfy my curiosity, I decided to put ChatGPT to the test.
For the dating profile experiment, I requested ChatGPT to compose a 300-character bio that highlighted my love for my dog, recent travels to Egypt, affinity for red wine, and enjoyment of board games. The resulting profile was somewhat generic and failed to capture the essence of what would attract someone's interest.
Next, I tried soliciting an opening message for a specific dating app scenario. Although the response was decent, I felt it lacked the personalized touch needed to truly engage the recipient.
Human Touch vs. AI Precision
After experimenting with AI-generated profiles and messages, I concluded that no one knows you better than yourself, certainly not a machine. A compelling profile should include unique and specific details that set you apart, while opening messages should reflect a genuine interest based on the individual's profile.
While AI can offer assistance, a more personalized approach tailored by a professional may yield better results. Crafting a standout bio involves highlighting specific interests and unique traits, while engaging opening messages should be thoughtful and personalized.
Though not everyone excels at self-promotion, seeking help from experts who can provide tailored advice based on solid evidence may be more beneficial in the realm of online dating.
