Meta Supercharges AI Projects in Bid to Make Llama Everyone's Go-To Chatbot
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is ramping up its efforts in the field of artificial intelligence with the formation of a new team dedicated to AI-driven projects, including the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI). Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is personally involved in recruiting approximately 50 new team members to accelerate AI innovations within the company.
The new "superintelligence group" at Meta will have a primary focus on achieving AGI, which aims to bring AI technology closer to performing tasks as well as or better than humans. This team will collaborate closely with Zuckerberg and contribute to the development of AI-focused products, such as Meta AI chatbots and Meta AI Glasses.
In addition to working on internal projects, the new team at Meta will also collaborate with external partners like Scale AI, a company that provides data, AI models, and applications to businesses. There are even speculations that Scale AI's CEO, Alexandr Wang, may join Zuckerberg's team to further enhance their AI initiatives.
Challenges and Competition
Despite Meta's ambitious AI goals, the company has faced delays in the release of AI models, particularly in relation to its Llama AI platform. Meta is in fierce competition with industry giants like OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Apple in advancing its AI technology. While Meta's AI chatbots are primarily integrated within its platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp, the company aims to expand their capabilities to compete on a broader scale.
