Case Study: Dublin City's Cloud-based Electoral Portal
Dublin City Council (DCC) serves as the governing body for Dublin City, making it the largest Local Authority in Ireland. To enhance the electoral process for its citizens, DCC has introduced a cloud-based electoral portal accessible at http://www.voter.ie.
Enhancing Voter Accessibility
With over 899,000 eligible voters across Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, and South Dublin County Council, the implementation of the portal streamlines voter registration and information updates. In 2018 alone, 43,312 electors registered to vote, showcasing the portal's significance in facilitating electoral participation.
TEKenable's Solution
After a rigorous tender process, TEKenable was selected to develop the electoral portal. The project entailed intricate integration with Azure Cloud, on-premise databases, and the Department of Social Protection MyGovID system. Given the sensitivity of electoral data, ensuring data confidentiality, integrity, and availability was a top priority.
Benefits for Dublin City Council
The cloud-based portal automates manual processes, reducing administrative costs significantly. It caters to voter search, registration, and detail updates efficiently. The solution ensures scalability to accommodate spikes in demand during key electoral events.
Minister's Perspective
The Minister of State for Local Government and Electoral Reform views this initiative as a pivotal step in modernizing the electoral registration process. More details on this can be found here.
