Telus announces five-year $70B funding plan to bolster networks

Telus Corp. has announced a significant investment of over $70 billion over the next five years to enhance connectivity. The telecommunications company plans to achieve this through various means, including improvements to its network infrastructure and the establishment of artificial intelligence data centres.
Enhancing Connectivity
In a recent press release, Telus revealed that a portion of the funding will be allocated towards strengthening fibre connectivity in key regions such as B.C., Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario. Additionally, the company aims to enhance wireless coverage by upgrading 5G and LTE services.
Expanding Network Reach
By 2026, Telus plans to expand its broadband network to encompass 20 Indigenous lands, significantly increasing its current coverage. The company also intends to extend its services to 53 rural communities, up from the existing 530.
AI Data Centers
As part of its strategic initiatives, Telus will be launching two new AI data centres in Kamloops, B.C., and Rimouski, Que. These facilities are designed to offer Canadian businesses and researchers access to cutting-edge technology, fostering innovation in various sectors.
