Man dies after train seat collapsed during mid-journey, Indian railways officials say

A tragic incident occurred on June 16 when a 60-year-old man named Ali Khan C K from Kerala was on a train journey to Agra. While travelling in the lower berth of the sleeper coach of the train number 12645 Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Millennium Superfast Express, the upper berth seat in the compartment collapsed on him, causing severe injuries.

Despite being rushed to a hospital in Ramagundam and later shifted to one in Hyderabad, the man succumbed to his injuries on June 24.

Improper securing of the seat blamed for the accident

According to GRP officials, the upper berth seat fell due to inadequate securing by another passenger. The seat's chain was not properly placed, leading to the tragic incident. The passenger in question was assigned seat number 57 in the S6 coach, as revealed by the Ministry of Railways.

The Ministry of Railways clarified that the seat was not damaged or faulty before the incident. It was only due to the improper securing of the chain by another passenger that the seat collapsed on Ali Khan C K.
