Oumi: The AI revolution led by Greek minds - Neos Kosmos
A new AI tool ‘Oumi’ was recently launched by Greek-educated scientists Manos Koukoumides, Panos Achlioptas, and Konstantínos Aísopos. The trio's goal with Oumi is to make AI development more accessible to everyone and challenge the secrecy of big tech companies.
Despite studying in Greece for their undergraduate degrees, Manos, Panos, and Kostas now reside in the US, specifically in Palo Alto, California. Manos and Kostas pursued their PhDs together at Princeton University, where they also met Panos. The three decided to collaborate and co-found Oumi after recognizing the need for a more open AI platform.
Reflecting on their education in Greece, Manos emphasizes how well it prepared him for his career and hopes that Greek institutions will continue to support and nurture talented scientists to shape society positively.
Kostas adds that despite the underfunding of universities in Greece, their education laid a strong foundation for their future endeavors. The trio now plans to expand Oumi and potentially open an office in Greece to provide opportunities for skilled individuals in the country.
