OpenAI Reveals New Deep Research Tool For ChatGPT - The AI Arms Race
The AI arms race just got more intense. OpenAI has unveiled a powerful new ChatGPT tool, “deep research,” promising to generate in-depth reports in mere minutes—something that would take humans hours. The announcement was made in Tokyo on Monday and comes as China’s DeepSeek sent shockwaves through Silicon Valley a week ago.
Expanding Capabilities
Deep research, currently available to Pro ChatGPT users, scours and synthesizes hundreds of sources, acting like a research analyst on steroids. 
But OpenAI’s expansion doesn’t stop there. Partnering with tech giant SoftBank, Altman and SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son revealed a new joint venture to integrate AI into Japanese businesses. SoftBank is committing $3 billion annually to roll out OpenAI solutions, focusing on a new AI product called Cristal, which is designed to process business data, emails, and meetings with surgical precision.
