Samsung Bans The Use of AI-Like ChatGPT for Employees after Misuse of Technology

Samsung has temporarily restricted the use of generative artificial intelligence tools following a memo sent to employees of one of its biggest divisions in which the technology was being misused. The company has advised its employees not to enter any personal or company-related information into services such as ChatGPT, which is a viral AI chatbot developed by U.S. firm, OpenAI. ChatGPT is trained on a large amount of data and can generate a response to user queries. However, entering sensitive company data into foreign-owned services could be a concern to companies worried about leaks of crucial information.

Other generative AI products, such as Google's Bard, also raise concerns. These products can help engineers to generate computer code, for example, and speed up their tasks. However, it seems that companies are not willing to take the risk of the information leaking out.

Samsung and JPMorgan Chase both restricted the ChatGPT use among their staff. Amazon has warned its employees not to upload confidential information into the services. Goldman Sachs has been using generative AI to help generate code.

Despite the risks, Samsung is still looking for ways in which generative AI can be safely used to enhance employee productivity and efficiency. In a company-wide survey, 65% of employees who responded said they were concerned about security risks when using generative AI services.
