Former OpenAI chief scientist to start a new AI company | Atoll Times
The company is called Safe Superintelligence and is described on its website as an American firm. ChatGPT maker OpenAI's co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever announced on Wednesday that he is starting a new artificial intelligence company.
The focus of the company is on creating a safe AI environment, especially at a time when major tech companies are seeking to dominate the generative AI boom.
Safe Superintelligence, as the company is known, is an American firm with offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, according to its website. Sutskever disclosed the launch of the company in a post on X, emphasizing their commitment to singular focus without distractions from management overhead or product cycles.
According to the post, the business model of Safe Superintelligence ensures that safety, security, and progress are shielded from short-term commercial pressures. Sutskever is joined by former OpenAI researcher Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, co-founder of Cue and a former AI lead at Apple, as co-founders of the new venture.
Sutskever's departure from Microsoft-backed OpenAI in May followed his involvement in CEO Sam Altman's controversial firing and subsequent rehiring in November of the previous year. After Altman's return, Sutskever was removed from the company's board.
