His upcoming visit follows President Lee Jae-myung's inauguration, where he pledged to position Korea as one of the top three AI powerhouses globally through a significant national investment initiative of 100 trillion-won ($73 billion).

During his previous visit on May 26, Kwon announced that OpenAI had established a Korean subsidiary and is planning to open its third Asian office in Seoul in the coming months, adding to its existing offices in Tokyo and Singapore.

An official from OpenAI highlighted Korea's significance as a key partner due to its active engagement with OpenAI services and promising opportunities for collaboration with Korean businesses.

Notably, Korea ranks among the top 10 countries globally in terms of ChatGPT users and developers leveraging OpenAI platforms, with the second-largest number of paid ChatGPT subscribers, after the United States.

OpenAI has already been collaborating with major Korean companies such as Kakao, Krafton, and SK Telecom on AI technologies and data center development, even before formally entering the Korean market.

Kakao is expected to announce the outcomes of its collaborative project with OpenAI later this year.
