OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has his first son at the age of 39
On the 23rd, Altman posted a picture of a newborn on his Twitter and wrote, "Welcome to the world!"
"My son was born earlier than I thought, so I'm going to be in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for a little longer," he said. "He's getting through it well, and I've never felt love like this."
Family Planning and Surrogacy
Sam Altman married Oliver Mulherin, an Australian programmer, in early 2024. The same-sex couple later began to push for a plan to give birth to a child through a surrogate mother. Altman, who grew up in a "middle-class Jewish family," has expressed his desire for a large family in an interview with New York Magazine.
Future Outlook and AI
Altman appeared on a famous podcast in late January and shared his excitement about the upcoming birth of his child. He mentioned, "Future children will not know a world without AI smarter than themselves."

Altman has chosen not to disclose his personal life extensively. However, after marrying Mulherin in January last year, the couple reportedly splits their time between a detached house in the Russian Hill area of San Francisco during the week and a 25-year-old house with a farm in Napa Valley on weekends. Mulherin made his first public appearance at a White House dinner in 2023.
