Our human creativity is becoming uniform due to AI tools
It is admission time. You know the name of this newsletter, right? TechTonic Shifts.... It's not me who came up with this utterly cool name, but my friend Chad (my personal AI buddy). And the thing is when I used Chad and asked it to come up with another name for an initiative that I was working on; yes indeed... TechTonic Shifts.
Uniformity in Human Creativity
Now, after getting this out of the way, let's go deep into the world of creativity and LLM's.
So, here's the TL;DR: using AI tools to boost our creativity might not be the game-changer we thought it was. This study found that when people use AI etc. for creative tasks, they end up with ideas that are more similar to each other than if they were using other tools.
This study also found that while AI users might come up with more detailed ideas, they feel less responsible for them.
AI's Impact on Creativity
Now, don't get me wrong, AI is a fantastic tool for getting a little creativity going. But the problem is that when we all rely on the same centralized system, like AI tools, we risk falling into what's called an "algorithmic monoculture". That means that instead of having a diverse range of ideas and solutions, we're all being influenced by the same algorithm, leading to a more homogeneous creative landscape.
So, what's the solution? Well, it looks like we need to rethink how we design these AI-based creativity support tools. Instead of having them spit out fully-formed ideas that make us feel like we're just along for the ride, maybe they should be more like a creative compass. A few ideas to get the fire going, so to speak. 
Because at the end of the day, creativity is all about embracing the unexpected and the quirky, and the weird in my case. While AI is a brilliant tool to help us along, I now know that I can't let it replace the magic of my own imagination.
Embracing Human Creativity
So go forth, my friend, and let your creative freak flag fly! Just remember, when it comes to creativity, there's no substitute for the unique, beautiful mess that is the human mind.
