What is My AI on Snapchat? Social media app rolls out chatbot
Snapchat has launched a new chatbot called My AI which is powered by the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT. The feature is now available to all users within the app regardless of whether they are paying for Snapchat+ subscription or not. It offers recommendations, answers questions, helps users make plans and can even write a haiku in seconds. To use My AI, users only need to mention "@MyAI" while chatting with friends. They can also personalize the chatbot by giving it a name and designing a custom Bitmoji avatar for it.
My AI's creator ChatGPT, which was developed by OpenAI, opened up access to its chatbot to third-party businesses over a month ago. Snap was among the early partners experimenting with adding ChatGPT. Since its public release in November 2022, ChatGPT has been able to generate original essays, stories and song lyrics in response to user prompts, which has prompted other tech companies to develop and deploy similar AI tools in their products.
However, incorporating ChatGPT features in their products may come with some risks. The tool, which is trained on vast troves of data online, can spread inaccurate information and has the potential to respond to users in ways they might find inappropriate. Snap has acknowledged in a blog post on Wednesday that "My AI is far from perfect but we've made a lot of progress" and has made changes to "help protect against responses that could be inappropriate or harmful."
Snap has included the new feature in its in-app parental tools and has added moderation technology. It said that about 99.5% of My AI responses conform to its community guidelines and that it will continue to use these early learnings to make AI a more safe, fun, and useful experience.
