Iflytek's SparkDesk: Advancing AI Education and Enterprise

Iflytek Unveils ChatGPT Rival as China Plans More AI Oversight

Chinese voice-recognition company Iflytek Co. has unveiled its SparkDesk, an artificial intelligence model for educational and enterprise uses, which aims to rival OpenAI Inc.'s ChatGPT. Chairman Liu Qingfeng introduced the SparkDesk at an event in Hefei, using voice-recognition prompts to make the chatbot assess student essays and compose hypothetical stories in both Chinese and English. Liu said their goal was to surpass OpenAI's capabilities in Chinese and reach ChatGPT's standards in English.

The release of Iflytek's SparkDesk comes at a time when Beijing is signaling increased oversight of the AI industry. The government's recent crackdown on technology companies such as Alibaba and Tencent has led to a shift in the industry, which is now focused on developing "common prosperity" for the country. Experts believe that this move will lead to significant changes in the sector and may even prompt companies to focus more on development rather than profit.
