Using AI Tools to Prompt Knowledge Appropriately and Ethically in Academic Research

This chapter discusses the challenges faced by academics in using AI tools to prompt knowledge ethically and appropriately in their research endeavors. Academics are constantly required to cite sources and ideas accurately to progress in various scientific fields while upholding ethical standards. Within universities, researchers often place great emphasis on constructing arguments and analyzing views within their respective subjects.

Role of Chatbots in Research

The advent of Chatbots has significantly simplified the research process for academics, particularly in the generation of scientific texts, mathematical equations, and discussions on philosophical topics. However, this convenience has led to some researchers indiscriminately using large amounts of text generated by AI tools without properly attributing or acknowledging the original authors.

The Ethical Implications of AI in Academic Research: Balancing ...

In Algeria, the introduction of the free version of ChatGPT 3.5 has resulted in a notable increase in research misconduct, with ethical breaches nearly doubling by 28%. Despite this, there has been a 10% rise in research output compared to previous years. Regrettably, much of this research fails to meet high standards and is predominantly published in local journals that lack indexing in reputable databases like Scopus, Springer, and Elsevier. Consequently, Algerian Higher Education institutions, particularly within the Algerian Scientific Journals Platform, face new challenges and opportunities.
