You Are Perfect Just the Way You Are | by Kevin Ewig | Nov, 2024 ...
The world often places a lot of pressure on people. The expectations others have for you can be incredibly high. Maybe that’s why professional models are often edited and photoshopped before appearing in magazines! People expect you to always make the best choices, do the right thing flawlessly, and solve everything on time.
If you fall short, it can feel like you’re somehow — less than. Sometimes, we tell ourselves this message. Other times, it is tough when someone says it outright. But I’m here to remind you: you are perfect just the way you are.
You Are Valuable Just as You Are
Despite countless years of experience in software IT, multiple advanced degrees, certifications, and a track record of building complex systems, I’ve been told that some still perceive me as less valuable than Person X — someone quick with one-liners, adept at fixing minor issues, and fast to patch up problems. At first, this feedback upset me. But then I realized: I’m perfect just the way I am.
Yes, there’s always room to grow. But I don’t need to prove my worth to anyone except myself.
The truth is, those who criticize you — whether silently or openly — don’t truly know you. They haven’t been in the trenches with you, working tirelessly day in and day out. Dealing with stress day in and day out. They haven’t felt the pressure of making ends meet, putting a roof over their head, and putting food on the table. They’re just armchair spectators, sitting comfortably on the sidelines, making comments about things they could never do themselves.
Your Worth Is Intrinsic
So, let them talk. Listen if there is something constructive to be learned, but don’t let criticism define you. Your value isn’t tied to achievements, appearance, or the approval of others. Your worth is intrinsic — you are deserving simply because you exist. And in existing as a good person, you bring something positive to this world. You’re one more good person in society. That alone is priceless.
You are one of a kind. Take a moment — close your eyes and think about your life. Your experiences, relationships, and interactions. How many people have the exact same story as you? No one.
Embrace Your Individuality
It’s easy to compare yourself to others, especially to those who seem to have done more, achieved more, or were simply “better.” But that kind of comparison is not exactly correct. Just because something is “more” doesn’t make it inherently better or of greater value.
You are unique, and so is everyone else. But that doesn’t diminish your worth. Your quirks, passions, and perspectives make you extraordinary.
Imperfection Makes You Unique
Society often tells us that perfection equals beauty. But research — and human experience — shows otherwise. What truly captivates us are the quirks, the small asymmetries, the unexpected features that set someone apart. Imperfections make beauty personal and unforgettable.
Are you imperfect? Welcome to the club. Spoiler alert: we all are. And that’s more than okay — it’s what makes us human.
Your imperfections are not flaws to hide but features to embrace. They are reminders that you are unique, constantly growing, and wonderfully human. So, wear your imperfections proudly. They’re what make you, you.
Self-Compassion and Growth
Be kind to yourself. Prioritize your well-being and treat yourself with the same love and care you’d show a friend. If you don’t love and care for yourself, who will? When you cultivate self-compassion, it not only benefits you but also allows you to share positive energy with those around you.
Make self-care a regular part of your routine. Take time to center yourself through mindfulness or meditation practices. These can help you stay grounded, reduce stress, and cultivate a sense of peace. Even a minute or two of deep breathing can improve your mindfulness.
