WhatsApp update June 2025: How to create images via Meta AI
One of WhatsApp’s recent updates added the ability to generate AI images within the app via Meta AI. At a time when all other generative AI chatbot makers are invested in launching a dedicated app, Meta decided to expand access to its AI chatbot via integration with WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. The availability of the bot within these apps makes it easy for people to quickly access generative AI services without leaving the app. Most importantly, Meta AI is completely free to use, unlike other services like Google Gemini Pro, ChatGPT Plus, Perplexity, and more.
In WhatsApp, people like to generate more AI images to share greetings and stickers with their loved ones. A simple prompt in the Meta AI text box allows people to get a near-accurate picturisation of what they had in mind. However, not everyone knows how to access the feature or use it properly to make the most out of it.
How to Generate AI Images on WhatsApp via Meta AI:
For all those willing to learn the tips and tricks of generating a desired image via AI, here is what you need to do:
- The image generation functionality leverages Meta’s sophisticated AI systems and supports multilingual input, including English and Hindi, among other languages.
- Launch the WhatsApp app on your device and navigate to either an individual chat or a group chat where you wish to generate an image. The ‘Imagine’ prompt is accessible in both contexts.
- In the message composition area (the text input field at the bottom of the chat screen), type the word imagine (without quotation marks).
- Following the ‘imagine’ prompt, enter a detailed textual description of the image you wish the AI to create. The more specific and vivid your prompt, the better the AI can understand and generate the desired visual.
Example 1: imagine a futuristic city skyline at sunset
Example 2: imagine a cat wearing a tiny astronaut helmet floating in space
Example 3: imagine a cozy coffee shop with rain outside
Once your prompt is complete, send the message. The AI will then process your request. After a brief processing period, the AI-generated image corresponding to your description will appear directly within the chat. If the initial image is not exactly what you imagined, or if you want to make changes, you can iteratively refine it. All you need to do is reply directly to the generated image with a new prompt. This new prompt can provide additional details, request modifications, or specify a different style. The AI will then use both the original image context and your new prompt to generate a revised version.
Example: If the initial image was a “futuristic city skyline at sunset,” you could reply to it with “make the buildings taller and add flying cars” to modify it.
