Chaos at Bandra Terminus: Stampede Injures 9 Passengers

Stampede at Mumbai's Bandra train station, 9 injured - Maharashtra

At least nine people were injured in a stampede incident at Bandra Terminus station in Mumbai today. The stampede took place at 5.56 am on platform number 1, just before the departure of the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express. The injured individuals were promptly transferred to Bhabha Hospital for medical attention.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) attributed the stampede to the festive rush leading up to Diwali. Currently, seven of the injured individuals are in stable condition, while two others are facing critical injuries.

According to reports, the injured have been identified as Shabhir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19), and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18).

Train No 22921, which was en route from Bandra to Gorakhpur, attracted a large crowd of passengers eager to board upon its arrival at platform 1. Western Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Vineet Abhishek, explained that the incident occurred when two passengers attempted to board the Bandra-Gorakpur Antyodaya Express. The authorities acted promptly, arranging for the injured passengers to be transported to Bhabha Hospital for urgent medical care.

Visuals from the scene depicted a chaotic situation with blood on the platform floor as Railway Police and fellow passengers offered assistance to the injured individuals. A video showcased a Railway officer carrying an injured passenger on his shoulder, while another clip displayed two men lying on the platform floor with their clothes stained with blood. One individual was seen sitting on a bench, with his shirt torn.

An eyewitness described the morning's events, stating, "A sudden stampede broke out this morning at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus as crowds surged to board the Bandra-Gorakhpur train. The rush quickly escalated, overwhelming the station's capacity and leaving nine people injured."
