OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati and 2 other execs are on their way out
A high-ranking executive at OpenAI who served as its interim CEO during a period of turmoil last year is leaving the artificial intelligence company. Mira Murati, OpenAI's chief technology officer, announced her departure in a written statement on Wednesday.
Leadership Changes at OpenAI
In addition to Murati, two other top executives, Chief Research Officer Bob McGrew and research leader Barret Zoph, are also leaving OpenAI. These departures were announced by CEO Sam Altman. Altman emphasized that the decisions were made independently and amicably.
High-Profile Departures
These recent departures add to the list of high-profile exits from OpenAI. President and co-founder Greg Brockman is currently on a sabbatical until the end of the year. Co-founder John Schulman left for rival Anthropic, while Ilya Sutskever, another co-founder, departed to start his own AI company.
Positive Remarks
Despite the departures, Murati spoke positively of OpenAI and Altman in a note to colleagues. She described OpenAI as a place of AI innovation and expressed the difficulty of leaving a cherished workplace.
CEO Transition
Murati had briefly taken on the role of interim CEO at OpenAI after Altman was fired by the board of directors. However, Altman was later restored to his position, and the leadership saw significant changes.
