This WhatsApp Feature May Protect You From Mass Scam Texts ...
Recently, some WhatsApp users have expressed frustration regarding the addition of Meta AI to the app. Specifically, many are disappointed that they are unable to disable this feature. However, digital expert Michael Ryan from Ink Digital highlights another potentially more valuable feature that comes "turned off by default."
The Advanced Security Measure
Described by WhatsApp as an "advanced security measure," this setting aims to protect users from a barrage of unsolicited messages that could inundate their phones. While this feature doesn't block messages from known contacts, it acts as a shield against large-scale spam attacks that could potentially disrupt normal phone functionality.
Block Unknown Account Messages
Referred to as "Block Unknown Account Messages," this feature is designed to prevent high-volume texts from unknown numbers from reaching your device. According to WhatsApp’s site, this setting helps mitigate the impact of spam messages on your phone's performance, particularly when they originate from unfamiliar numbers.

Despite not entirely eliminating spam content, this feature acts as a filter for messages exceeding a certain volume threshold. Ryan explains that these high-volume messages typically come from unknown sources rather than your regular contacts.
How to Enable the Feature
For iPhone users, activating this feature involves navigating to Settings, selecting Privacy, and then Advanced. From there, users can simply toggle the "Block Unknown Account Messages" option on. Android users can access this feature by tapping the three-dot menu icon, proceeding to Settings, Privacy, and then Advanced to activate the setting.

Those using WhatsApp Web can enable this feature by clicking the three dots, accessing Settings, Privacy, and selecting Advanced. Once in the Advanced settings, users can locate the feature and switch it on.
This feature ensures that messages from known contacts are unaffected while providing a safeguard against potential spam attacks that could disrupt the normal functioning of your device.
