Gemini Nano AI now protecting Chrome users from scam websites
Google, based in California, has recently released a report showcasing how the company is leveraging artificial intelligence to combat online scams. The report, unveiled on Thursday, highlights the integration of AI technology in Chrome, Search, and Android to tackle fraudulent activities.

Enhanced Protection in Chrome Browser
The Google blog post mentions that the tech giant has incorporated Gemini Nano AI directly into the Chrome browser to combat website-based scams effectively. This implementation aims to enhance security measures and protect users from potential threats.
According to the Google blog post, the company has made significant strides in detecting and preventing scams by utilizing AI technology. The latest Fighting Scams in Search report emphasizes the continuous improvement of AI-powered scam detection tools, resulting in the identification of 20 times more potentially harmful websites.
Addressing Various Scam Techniques
Website-based scams are known to target unsuspecting individuals by creating fake websites to deceive them into providing personal information or financial details. This deceptive practice involves tactics such as offering fake incentives or creating a sense of urgency to lure users into falling victim to the scams.

Google is constantly upgrading its AI-powered scam detection mechanisms within Search to enhance the identification and demotion of scam-related content. By improving its classifiers, Google has successfully mitigated fraudulent schemes, such as scammers impersonating airline customer service agents, by over 80 per cent.
Advanced Protection for Android Devices
Google has reinforced the Enhanced Protection mode in Chrome's Safe Browsing feature by integrating Gemini Nano, a powerful on-device large language model (LLM) tailored for desktops. This enhancement provides an extra layer of security by identifying potential phishing sites and promptly alerting Google for necessary actions.
Gemini Nano's capabilities extend to analysing complex website behaviors and detecting previously unidentified scams, offering users a more secure online experience. Google has also announced its plans to extend similar protective measures to Android devices, broadening its scope of scam detection.
Introduction of New Safeguards for Android Users
Android users are already benefiting from enhanced protection measures. Chrome on Android now includes a feature that blocks harmful website-based notifications. If a notification from a site is flagged as suspicious, users will receive a warning message titled "Potential scam detected," along with options to unsubscribe or safely review the notification.
