Google App for iOS is Losing its Gemini Chatbot Integration
Changes in Google App for iOS
The main Google Search app for iOS is losing its Gemini chatbot integration. Google has started informing iOS users by email that Gemini was “no longer available in the Google app,” redirecting them to the standalone Gemini app that launched on Apple’s App Store back in November (via 9to5Google).
Google mentioned in the email, “We’re making some changes to create an even better Gemini experience on iOS. Gemini is now available as its own app, and that’s now the best place to use Gemini. To continue using Gemini, download the new Gemini app from the App Store.”
Transition to the Standalone Gemini App
Before Google launched its dedicated Gemini app for iOS last fall, the AI assistant was available via the main Google app. A toggle at the top of the app let users switch between the traditional Google Search experience and a Gemini chat session.
Over time, the standalone Gemini app became more capable, and it’s currently the only way to access “Gemini Live” voice chats on iOS. Google mentioned, “With the Gemini app, you’ll have access to all of the same features and more.”
Additional Features and Benefits
The Google Gemini app can also connect with other Google apps including Maps, Gmail, YouTube, and more. With a Google One AI Premium subscription, users can also use the company’s most capable AI models and get priority access to new features such as Gemini Deep Research.
