The new large language models that power generative artificial intelligence could replace many tasks currently performed by humans, according to Ben Goertzel, an artificial intelligence expert and cognitive scientist known for co-creating the humanoid robot Sophia. In an interview with ZDNet, Goertzel warned that people do not need to be creative or take large leaps to perform most jobs, as automated AI tools can do the job for them. This development in AI could lead to industry reshuffling and reassigning work responsibilities, affecting jobs such as fast-food workers, copy editors, and writers.

The year 2023 has seen tech cutbacks continue unabated and both Amazon's and Google's chiefs suggesting additional cutbacks as the companies continue to evaluate their businesses. According to a letter Amazon Chief Andy Jassy sent to the company's investors, reprioritizing where to spend resources led to the decision to eliminate 27,000 corporate jobs. "There are various changes that we've made throughout the course of recent months to smooth out our general expenses, and like most authority groups, we’ll keep on assessing what we're finding in our business and continue adaptively," Jassy wrote.
