OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Reveals Plans about Not Training GPT-5

OpenAI recently launched the AI language model GPT-4 which has gained significant attention due to its ability to generate quick and comprehensive answers to a wide range of queries. With over 100 million monthly active users, ChatGPT, a program built on GPT-4, is the fastest-growing consumer application to date. However, the rapid growth of such AI technologies has raised concerns about safety, privacy, and employment.

Addressing concerns, OpenAI's CEO and co-founder Sam Altman stated that the company is not attempting to train GPT-5. Speaking at an event held at MIT, Altman noted that the request for a pause on the development of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 lacks technical nuance to determine where a pause is necessary. He mentioned that OpenAI is doing other things on top of GPT-4 that have safety issues that need attention.

The safety issues of GPT-4 have been a topic of discussion for many experts in the industry, including several signatories such as Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and Professor Stuart Russell. The nature of the threat posed by AI and how the industry might put brakes on development is a debatable topic.

In light of the concerns raised, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) is set to establish a task force on ChatGPT to formulate a common policy on privacy rules for Artificial Intelligence. After Italy's decision to curb ChatGPT and Germany's commissioner for data protection indicating that it may follow suit, Spain's AEPD watchdog has announced that it will investigate potential data breaches by ChatGPT.

OpenAI continues to innovate in the field of AI, including the development of GPT-4, despite concerns. It’s important for all parties involved to consider and address concerns to ensure the safe and responsible use of AI technology.
