Meta developing its own AI search engine, The Information reports
According to a report from The Information, Meta Platforms Inc, the owner of Facebook, is currently in the process of developing its own search engine. This search engine will be designed to crawl the web for information, which will then be provided to users through its AI chatbot.
Meta's motivation behind this endeavor is to lessen its reliance on other search engines such as Google and Microsoft Corp’s Bing. Presently, these search engines are responsible for delivering information regarding news, sports, and stocks to users of Meta's AI.
As per The Information, an undisclosed source who reportedly spoke with Meta's search engine team revealed this information. Following this news, shares in Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc, saw a decline of up to 0.8%, while Meta experienced a 0.3% increase.
It is clear that Meta is making significant strides in the realm of artificial intelligence and search technology, as it endeavors to enhance the user experience and reduce reliance on external platforms.
