Google is now facing a proposed class-action lawsuit for allegedly training its AI model using copyrighted material. Here is the scoop.

Background:

In May 2022, Google launched Imagen, and eventually Imagen 2 in December of the same year. It appears that Google scraped content available online, including copyrighted works, to train its AI model.

Lawsuit Against Google:

This proposed class-action lawsuit was filed by artists claiming that Google used their copyrighted material to train Imagen and other systems without permission.

Google hit with lawsuit over new AI data-scraping privacy policy

Remember Google's Privacy Policy Update: In the summer of 2023, Google updated its Privacy Policy to state that its AI services could be trained on public data scraped from the web. The updated Privacy Policy stated: "We may collect information that's publicly available online or from other public sources to train Google's AI models and build products and features like Google Translate, Bard, and Cloud AI capabilities.
