This exceeded initial estimates, which projected earnings of $50-55 million. The film also raked in $42.7 million internationally, bringing its total opening week revenue to $123.2 million.

"Twisters" claimed the third spot for the largest theatrical domestic film opening weekend of 2024, trailing behind Disney's "Inside Out 2" ($154 million) and Warner Bros.' "Dune: Part Two" ($82 million). The original "Twister" from 1996, featuring stars like Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, debuted with $41.1 million domestically.
Following closely behind in the box office rankings for the weekend was Universal's "Despicable Me 4," now in its third week, with an additional $23 million, bringing its total domestic earnings to $259.5 million. Meanwhile, "Inside Out 2" continued its successful run, adding $12.8 million in its sixth week and reaching a total of $596.4 million domestically.

The summer box office figures have contributed to narrowing the revenue gap when compared to the same period last year, with a current decline of 17% amounting to $4.3 billion in total. Universal Pictures invested approximately $19.8 million in national TV advertising for "Twisters," encompassing 1,560 airings and generating 1.1 billion impressions.

Looking at the broader picture, major theatrical studios have collectively spent an estimated $521 million on advertising through 112,320 airings, resulting in 63.35 billion impressions. This marks a 28% decrease from the previous year's expenditure of $725.6 million on 172,540 airings and 90.6 billion impressions during the same time frame.
