Unlike the ChatGPT app, the Google Gemini app offers a wide range of features, especially in terms of contextual conversations. Upon downloading the app, the first step is to switch your Google Assistant with Gemini. This transition unlocks a host of additional capabilities.
One standout feature is the ability to generate AI images simply by using the voice command "Hey Google." This feature adds a fun and interactive element to the app. When I swapped to Gemini and completed the chatbot setup, I noticed a camera icon within the text box.
This camera feature serves as an alternative for Google's Circle to Search functionality, catering to users who may not have it on their Android phones. I experimented by snapping two pictures and prompting Gemini for information, which yielded informative responses.
One particularly impressive function is the option to send images to the Google Gemini app, which then provides real-time information based on the image content. This feature enhances the user experience and offers valuable insights.
AI Image Generation
Another noteworthy feature of the Google Gemini app is the AI image generation capability. By simply saying "Hey Google" to your Android device after switching from Google Assistant to Gemini, you can effortlessly create custom images, draft emails, compose posts, and more.
To put this feature to the test, I requested the Google Gemini app to create an image of a robot in motion in Wyoming, and the results were impressive.
These two standout features of the Google Gemini app serve to elevate the functionality of budget-friendly Android devices with AI capabilities, bridging the gap that traditionally existed with more expensive phones. The app is readily available for download on the Google Play Store, although it appears to be unavailable on the Apple App Store at this time.
It is possible that the app is still in the rollout phase for Apple devices. The Google Gemini app presents an exciting prospect for Android users looking to leverage AI technology on their smartphones.
