Unveiling the Future: Meta's AI Bots Revolution

Meta AI Bots Are Coming

As we move into 2025, Meta has some pretty ambitious plans ahead. Unsurprisingly, the Big Tech company is rolling out some AI tools in the coming year. But the one that’s caused the most buzz is a tool that reportedly allows users to create AI characters on Facebook and Instagram.

How will these Meta AI bots work?

In an interview with the Financial Times, Connor Hayes, vice president of product for generative AI at Meta, said that Meta “expect[s] AIs to actually, over time, exist on our platforms, kind of in the same way that accounts do.”

“They’ll have bios and profile pictures and be able to generate and share content powered by AI on the platform,” he noted. “That’s where we see all of this going.”

This tool has been available in the US since July. According to Hayes, it’s already been used to make up thousands of AI avatars. However, these avatars have, for the most part, remained private. Hayes also added that this new tool feeds into Meta’s “priority” to make its platforms “more entertaining and engaging.”

Potential Concerns

In an interview with the Financial Times, Becky Owen, global chief marketing and innovation officer at Billion Dollar Boy, expressed concerns about the potential risks associated with AI-driven accounts on platforms.

“Without robust safeguards, platforms risk amplifying false narratives through these AI-driven accounts,” she said. “Unlike human creators, these AI personas don’t have lived experiences, emotions, or the same capacity for relatability.”
