Ask about this PDF Gemini Overlay Now Rolling Out on Android
Google has recently introduced a new feature called Ask about this PDF Gemini overlay on Android, which was first showcased at its I/O 2024 event in May. This feature now allows users to interact with the Gemini AI assistant to obtain information from a PDF document that is currently open on their screen.
Gemini PDF Overlay Feature
The Gemini overlay feature can be found in the updated PDF viewer within the Files by Google app. By activating the Gemini overlay, users can access the "Ask about this PDF" option, which prompts the AI assistant to analyze the contents of the PDF and respond to user queries. This feature is currently exclusive to the Files App and is not yet available in Google Drive's viewer.
When users tap on "Ask about this PDF," the document will begin uploading, allowing them to input their query into the "Ask Gemini" field. The response will be displayed as an overlay on top of the PDF, with the option to ask additional questions. This streamlined experience is currently available in version 16.0.5 of the Google app.
Gemini Integration in Google TVs
In addition to the PDF overlay feature, Google has also announced the integration of Gemini in Google TVs, offering users a comprehensive AI experience. With Gemini on Google TV, users can engage in various activities such as creating custom artwork with family members, controlling smart home devices in ambient mode, and staying updated on the latest news. This integration will be rolled out later this year on select Google TV devices.

Overall, the Gemini overlay feature and its integration in Google TVs signify Google's ongoing efforts to enhance user experiences through AI technology.
