Meta to invest in AI-Generated characters and profiles raising ...
A Meta AI executive mentioned that Facebook could potentially see a rise in AI-generated profiles and users in the near future. The company has been enhancing its artificial intelligence technologies since the previous year, introducing new AI offerings across various platforms including Facebook. One notable introduction was the launch of AI character-creation tools in July, resulting in the creation of hundreds of thousands of characters.
The executive stated that these AI-generated profiles would come equipped with bios and profile pictures, enabling users to produce and share content on the platform that is powered by AI. Over the following two years, Meta will concentrate on investing in AI development to enhance the engagement and enjoyment of its platforms. Currently, users are able to leverage Meta's AI for tasks such as photo editing and creating an AI assistant.
Concerns and Safeguards
Despite the advancements, concerns have been raised regarding the rapid influx of AI users. Experts emphasize the necessity for robust protections to prevent the proliferation of misinformation through these AI accounts. Becky Owen, formerly the chief marketing officer at Billion Dollar Boy and head of Meta's creator innovations team, cautioned against the potential risks posed by unchecked AI accounts.
Owen highlighted the risk of an excessive number of AI profiles on the platform, potentially leading to a decrease in genuine content. Unlike human creators, AI personas lack real-life experiences and emotions, making them less relatable to users.
