The privacy-focused browser DuckDuckGo has introduced a new AI chat feature, bringing exciting advancements to its users. Users can now access chatbot models such as ChatGPT 3.5, Llama 3, Claude 3, and Mixtral 8X7B anonymously. Initially available to selected users in beta, this feature is now being rolled out to all web users, albeit with limited access. To unlock all features, a small fee will be required.
The company's blog post announced that the AI chat will support four AI chatbot models - Open AI’s ChatGPT 3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Meta’s Llama 3, and Mistral’s Mixtral 8X7B. DuckDuckGo, known for its privacy policies, ensures users that the chats will remain private and will not be utilized for training AI models. Additionally, users' IP addresses will not be exposed.
Users can rest assured about their privacy, as conversations will remain anonymous similar to beta access. The company has agreements with AI model providers to restrict data usage from user prompts, ensuring that data cannot be used for model development.
The new DuckDuckGo feature can be accessed through URLs and Shortcuts, providing users with four AI models on their homepage to choose from. The chat window will include preset prompts like ‘Get computer help’, ‘Understand a topic’, or ‘Write an email’.
Users have the flexibility to switch the AI model they wish to interact with by clicking on the model name in the left pane. To end a conversation, users can simply click on the fire button next to the text box to close the chat window.
Excitingly, DuckDuckGo plans to introduce more chat models and browser entry points in the future. Reports also suggest that the company is considering a paid subscription plan for AI Chat.
