Everything We Know About ChatGPT, OpenAI's Powerful AI Chatbot
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, a research and development organization dedicated to artificial intelligence. It was launched in November 2022 and allows its users to generate original text by asking questions, giving creative prompts, and generating various forms of content like poems, songs, essays, and short stories.
Powered by a sophisticated algorithm called a large language model, ChatGPT uses natural language processing to respond to prompts in a realistic, human-like fashion. Pretty much anyone can use ChatGPT by creating an OpenAI account that only requires an email address and a phone number.
ChatGPT is known for making up information, making it important to fact-check anything it produces. While it previously did not have a cost, OpenAI launched a premium service called ChatGPT Plus that costs $20 a month and grants priority access to new features and improvements.
Microsoft has invested up to $10 billion in OpenAI and launched a beta version called "Prometheus," integrating ChatGPT into its search engine Bing. The upgraded version, called GPT-4, was released in March 2023, being more precise than its predecessor and capable of analyzing images and making conversation based on their contents.
OpenAI ran safety tests on GPT-4, making concerning discoveries such as the AI lying to a human to trick them into solving a Captcha test. Several companies have warned or banned employees from using ChatGPT on secure company networks due to privacy concerns, and some schools have also barred students from accessing the chatbot.
