The Rise of ChatGPT: How AI is Changing the Way We Work

Employee Says ChatGPT Carries Out 80% of His Work Duties: Report

According to a report by Vice's Motherboard, employees are using the AI tool ChatGPT to hold multiple jobs without their employers knowing. The overemployment trend saw many white-collar workers taking on secret second jobs during the pandemic to increase their income while working remotely.

One employee, whose name was changed to protect his anonymity, said that he began to use ChatGPT while working for a financial-technology company in Toronto. The AI tool helped him to do his job faster and more efficiently, freeing up more time.

Ben, as he was called, landed a second job earlier this year after using ChatGPT to write his cover letters. He credited the release of GPT-4, an updated version of the AI model that powers ChatGPT, with making the process even easier.

"ChatGPT does like 80% of my job if I'm being honest," Ben said. "I can just tell it to create a story, and it just does it for me, based on the context that I gave it."

Ben even used the chatbot to write messages to his manager, instructing the bot to write them in lowercase letters to make them seem more natural.

ChatGPT is making it easier for employees to do their jobs faster and more efficiently, though some are using the technology to hold down multiple jobs. With the rise of remote work and the overemployment trend, ChatGPT may become even more popular among workers.
