ChatGPT isn't getting big upgrades anytime soon
Reports about GPT-5 being worked on and coming in the near future have been denied by OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman, who said that the company is not currently training GPT-5 which would be the successor to GPT-4 that powers ChatGPT. This means that ChatGPT is unlikely to receive any major new upgrades or versions in the immediate future. Altman's comments came in response to an open letter from tech leaders asking AI companies to temporarily pause the development of AI systems that could be "more powerful than ChatGPT".
The concern is that AI tools such as ChatGPT have come into existence so quickly that developers and the world at large haven't had enough time to fully understand the power of AI and the potential dangers it poses. Thus, taking a step back from aggressively updating and innovating on AI tech seems like a reasonable choice for the time being.
While ChatGPT might not get any upgrades soon, AI technology is still being worked on behind the scenes and it's an inevitability. However, hopefully, we can prevent the robot uprising in the next few years.
