Gemini is rolling out to Google Messages, but it's not the same ...
Gemini continues its expansion within the Google ecosystem, with its AI now being integrated into Google Messages. This move comes after restrictions were lifted on June 18.
According to MySmartPrice, users will soon be able to utilize Gemini to draft messages, engage in fun conversations, and plan events, among other features. However, the appearance and functionality of Gemini within the app may vary for each user.
Accessing Gemini in Google Messages
To access Gemini in Google Messages, users can tap the New Chat button at the bottom of the screen and then select the AI from the window that appears. The option will be located at the top of the screen, above the contacts list. Android Police suggests that Gemini will be accessible as a floating action button (FAB), featuring the Gemini logo and positioned in the bottom right corner above the New Chat button.
The functionality of Gemini remains consistent regardless of its appearance, allowing users to ask questions or seek ideas effortlessly. The integration of Gemini aims to streamline access by reducing the number of taps needed to engage with the AI within Google Messages.
Terms and Conditions
Upon initial access to Gemini, users will encounter a terms and conditions page outlining the workings of the AI. It emphasizes that conversations with Gemini are not encrypted, urging users to exercise caution with the information shared. Gemini does not have access to private conversations or precise location details. It only possesses a general understanding of the user's location based on factors like IP address or home address. Chats are stored on the device for 18 months by default, with the option to adjust this duration.
Requirements and Support
Before using Gemini, users must meet certain criteria detailed on Google's Gemini Apps Help page. These include having an Android phone with 6GB RAM or higher, enabling RCS chats, and setting the device's language to English or Canadian French. The Help page also provides instructions on deleting chats before the expiration period and reporting inappropriate content.
Stay tuned for the upcoming patch, set to roll out in the coming weeks and enhance the Gemini experience on Android devices.
